How to profit from a seminar or event you organize
Getting the basics right is the key to profiting from organizing events
or seminars. Find answers to questions like:
- Who needs your products / services
- Where and how will you find these people
- The best ways to invite them to your event
- How to present information to the maximum advantage
These basics apply whether you're hosting an event for your boss, for
yourself, or even for a non-profit organization. Make no mistake -- an event
or seminar can be an excellent way to make money.
Here are some tips to help you do that.
- Ensure your message reaches your target audience effectively. For example,
if you're appealing to football fans, advertise at a football game.
- If possible, get experts / celebrity personalities to speak (or act as
presenters) at your seminar.
- If you are selling a product that entertains, then make having fun the
centerpiece of your seminar. Don't go heavy on technical details. The same
applies in reverse too. In short, think about the audience's needs and the
kind of product / service you offer.
- Don't give away the farm. In other words, don't give out ALL the info in a course
/ book, etc. Give out only enough to capture their interest and to let the
audience get a clear idea about your offering.
- If your product lends itself to it, get some attendees to participate in a
live demonstration. This is powerful proof that your offering delivers what
it promises.
- Offer some sort of bonus. It could be information products (books, e-books,
CDs, etc) thrown in for free, or a special prize of some kind. Something
related to your offer.
- Create urgency to act by having a special offer (lower price, or perhaps
special one-time bonuses) that's valid only during the seminar / event. This
will usually bring more sales.
